Bun B was the next artist to be featured for Jeff Sledge’s “Shop Talk” interview series on Al Lindstorm. In the interview, the two discuss the history of UGK opening up on their creative process in the studio. Bun said the late Pimp C would make the beats with a chorus already made or if he heard an instrumental before Chad had it written, he would create one himself. The two had a unique vibe, where they had an unspoken connection in the studio to just make music without discussing or criticizing work.
Things then transitioned to the historic contract the two had with Jive being the rap version of Sade releasing projects with long gaps in between each other. Bun felt “Ridin’ Dirty” was the first true representation of UGK being initially happy in their careers.
He then went on to discuss being most excited for their double album “Underground Kingz” in 2007 when Pimp C returned home. He went on to talk about a classic story of being introduced to Codeine Syrup with DJ Screw, as they were filling baby bottles with the product. You can continue after the jump to watch Bun speak on Pimp C’s passing and critics thinking their careers were over separated.
