RIP L’A!

Last March, RondoNumbaNine and Cdai were officially found guilty of the alleged murder of a cab driver, Javan Boyd. Since unfortunate 2014 incident, the two Chicago rappers have awaited their fate for nearly two years, and were charged last March for first-degree murder – originally facing 45 years to life in prison for their roles in the act. Cdai, born Courtney Ealy, was sentenced to 38 years in prison yesterday and avoided taking an entire L at the age of 21.

Through surveillance cameras, Cdai allegedly dropped his cell phone after the act and left a fingerprint on the victim’s car – which was used during the case. His co-defendant, Clint Massey, better known to the rap world as RondoNumbaNine, opened fire on the driver on the 3700 block of South Princeton Avenue. While Mr. Massey still has to await his fate, Cdai should have nearly two years credited from time already served and could see a parole release in the coming years.

According to prosecutors, Ealy and Massey were among a group of people who drove three cars to the Wentworth Gardens apartment complex on Feb. 22, 2014, looking to retaliate for an earlier shooting.

When the group spotted Boyd sitting in his Buick in the 3700 block of South Princeton Avenue, Ealy and Massey got out of the cars and approached Boyd. That’s when the duo asked Boyd if he was from the area and opened fire.

The attack was captured on nearby surveillance cameras, according to prosecutors. Ealy left a fingerprint on Boyd’s car and dropped his cellphone as he was fleeing the scene.
