That’s why we don’t call it Detroit, we call it Amityville.

These “Made In America” episodes have traveled to plenty of cities across the United States, with their latest stop being Detroit, MI. While there, they spoke to Danny Brown, Kevin Saunderson, Protomartyr and more to get a better feel of the city and what they’re all about, and how their history helped evolve into the music out today.

Danny mentioned there’s not much to do in the Detroit so most people stay inside, but he loves it there and is proud to call the city home (much like those who came before him, especially Eminem). He also touched on growing up with House and how that influenced his music, as well as the late great J-Dilla’s soulful production.

While the city may be a little deteriorated in certain areas now that buildings and factories have been abandoned, the people there have hope for a turnaround.

To get a better feel for Detroit’s Techno and House side, they ask a dance legend about the lineage in the music, which dates all the way to DJ/Producer Carl Craig. Not only that, but they get other’s take on the city’s future.
