These tracks may never come out just like the Dipset ones
Remember when Lil Wayne hinted he and Drake wrote for Detox? Well, the famous line from their “Ransom” cut may indeed be true, after a recently released a book from John Seabrook.
The long-time staff writer of The New Yorker deployed his now must-read book last fall, The Song Machine: Inside The Hit Factory, revealing some never-before-heard stories from the pop and urban world of the late 90s and early 2000s. Last week, reports surfaced that Drizzy was rumored to have worked with Dr. Dre at Death Row Records before he left in 1996.
However, due to Toronto mogul being only 10 at the time, the rumor just didn’t make logical sense to most. Luckily, Seabrook soon confirmed that Mr. OVO did indeed work with The Doctor, but that would be nearly a decade later when Drake was 19. Drizzy personally explained his time with Aftermath Records during 2005 as a ghostwriter for DETOX, which you can read below.
“It was some of the most strenuous militant shit I’ve ever done. But no useable songs came out of it. When I think of how he worked us, it’s no wonder he didn’t get anything out of it. It was just writers in a room churning out product all day.”
You can pick up Seabook’s new book at Amazon right now.
