Freddie Gibbs recently caught up with Genius to break down the lyrics and meaning behind his Madlib collab, “Flat Tummy Tea.” While spitting lines from the track, Gibbs talked about jewelry in the rap game, black people in America and people only wanting to be around him when things are going good.
He also revealed when he wrote the lyrics and working with Madlib in general. “I wrote most of this shit when I was locked up,” Gibbs said. “I think that’s a testament to the power of Madlib, because these motherfucking beats were stuck in my head. Working with Madlib, the thing I like the most is just the fact that nobody else makes beats like him. I feel like you gotta bring your A-game to really shine on his beat, or his beat gonna outshine you.”
