When Cameron Jibril Thomaz aka Wiz Khalifa put together his first project back in 2005, there were strong signs that the Pittsburgh rapper could have a successful career on his hands from an underground perspective. As he continued to gain more attention through Rostrum Records, we were provided with various new music that coincided with a major signing to Warner Bros Records in 2007.
Although the deal fell through in the middle of 2009, Wiz developed his work ethic and released acclaimed work of his own, alongside longtime affiliated artists like Curren$y. Shortly after this and a number of projects, we saw him sign to Atlantic Records over the course of 2010, which saw a positive increase in terms of notable collaborations. Not long after appearing on the XXL Freshmen cover of that year, the rapper maintained his core fans with the release of Kush & Orange Juice, with his mainstream success beginning with the chart-topping single “Black & Yellow.”
Fast forward a few years, Wiz is one of the most talked about artists in the hip-hop, racking up over a dozen mixtapes, with his fifth studio album Blacc Hollywood on the way. The increasingly-known Taylor Gang label has seeing many more additions to the roster in recent times, because Cameron has certainly put his success to use by providing a platform for other talented artists. In celebration of his birthday today, we chose to look back at a number of videos from his catalog that have helped shape his current image.
Happy birthday Wiz!
