You might have heard YG’s “My Nigga” a thousand times already, but you’ve never heard it like this. In a rare glimpse into DJ Mustard in the studio, he breaks down every aspect of the platinum selling record after Mike Lee came to him with the bass line, from how they added the hi-hats, to the bells, kicks, 808’s and everything else.
As interesting as that was, the interview at the end was the most significant, especially when they asked him about sounding like the Bay Area. That subject struck a nerve with a Mustard, saying he hates hearing that and says he’s influenced by the West Coast, but doesn’t wake up wanting to sound like the Bay. You should also note that he’s moving towards producing entire albums with artists rather than giving them singles.
Peep all that and more below, during his talk with Hardknock TV.
