ILOVEMAKONNEN was officially put on the map when Drake jumped on his single “Tuesday” and made it a smash hit. Now it looks like the two sides have ceased from hitting the club on weekdays together and parted ways. Rumors of this have actually been circulating for weeks, but things are being confirmed now more and more.
Fans actually noticed his Drink More Water 6 album was released through Warner Bros. without the OVO Sound imprint, and the way these two have been anything less of being supportive of one another, things make sense. Makonnen actually revealed that there was an OVO Sound compilation in the works, but ironically, it seems like he won’t be part of it.
Do you think this hurts the slimmed down Makonnen stock moving forward?
UPDATE: Makonnen gave Complex a statement regarding the news, thanking OVO for what they have done.
“I cannot thank OVO, 40, Oliver, Future & Mr. Morgan, enough for all that they have done for my career. No words can express how much I appreciate Drake for being a part of the success of Tuesday. I’m sure the haters will have something negative to say, but all in all my choice to be solely on Warner Bros Records was the right thing for me and for my best interest. Sorry there’s no beef to report, DRINK MORE WATER.”
