Watch J. Cole’s HBO Series “Road to Homecoming” [Episode 1]

Cole World before the album!

Forest Hills Drive was released a year ago almost to the day and J. Cole has been on a mission this whole year promoting the album on tour. But we’ve only seen a glimpse of everything it took to make the album happen and what’s transpired in the 365 days following. Thanks to HBO, now we get to see the whole journey for Cole World, through his Forest Hills Drive: Homecoming documentary. The first of six parts before his homecoming concert in his hometown. The cable network and Dreamville have spread out the journey leading up to the special, which will be the last part airing on TV.

In this one, Cole can be seen a few weeks before the release of his album, working on the masters and turning it in to the label for release in a short amount of time.

The crew also hosted album listening sessions across various cities and visited schools prior to the album release, to spread the word about it. The most notable was the one at his childhood home in North Carolina. This doesn’t even include the time he had to take to shoot music videos, radio appearances and club appearances.

But all the work paid off because the album did numbers first week and ultimately went platinum.
