RELATED: The Best Timbaland & Jay-Z Collaborations
Ever since announcing his power move with Samsung, the talk of Hip-Hop has been focused on this new Jay-Z album, and for good reason. Magna Carta Holy Grail is the first album ever to be released through an app. Not only that but it has already changed rules (thanks to the RIAA), becoming the pinnacle of their new policy, which eliminates the 30-day wait before an album can be certified gold or platinum. In short, as we type, the album is already platinum status before its release to the public through conventional methods of consumption, like iTunes digital and physical copies at retail.
After the wait and day-to-day access to lyric sheets and trailers, Jay-Z released the album two days early through the Samsung MCHG app (it was a disaster). Luckily app crashes didn’t stop the project from being heard, and if you’re one of the few who haven’t peeped the record in full, it has now been made available for stream.
With production from Timbaland, Swizz Beatz, Pharrell, Mike WiLL Made It, Hit-Boy, Boi-1da and features from Justin Timberlake, Beyonce, Nas, Rick Ross and more —on paper— this looks like the new standard as far as digital releases. But that’s for you to decide. Stream Hov’s entire Magna Carta Holy Grail album, after the jump.
