JAY-Z Opens Up About His Mom Coming Out: “I Really Cried”

A second trailer for JAY-Z‘s appearance on David Letterman’s My Next Guest Needs No Introduction has been released, which shows the rapper opening up about his mother’s coming out story.

“For her to sit in front of me and tell me, ‘I think I love someone,’ I mean, I really cried,” Hov says. “That’s a real story, like, I cry because I was so happy for her that she was free.” Jay already knew that his mom was gay, but this was the first time she had spoken to him about it and told him that she loved her partner.

The story was originally told on JAY-Z’s “Smile” from his 4:44 album.
