Lost Hendrix records coming to life
Back in 1967, Jimi Hendrix entered a recording session with Curtis Knight and The Squires to record “Gloomy Monday” and didn’t want to be recognized for his work on the song. As you can hear in the seconds preceding the track, Jimi emphasized how much he didn’t want his name to be used on the song a few times, right before kicking into it.
Now the Hendrix family is releasing a compilation titled You Can’t Use My Name on March 24, made up of songs from the mid ’60s, which feature him as a sideman for other R&B groups like The Isley Brothers and Little Richard. Their aim is to show how he sounded before making it big, even if at the time some didn’t know it was him in the background of certain records.
Considering it’s Monday and it may be gloomy for some, the release today makes perfect sense.
