Kamasi Washington Talks Working on ‘To Pimp a Butterfly’

Meet Kamasi Washington

Kamasi Washington had a breakthrough year in 2015 not only for releasing his debut album The Epic, but for helping to craft To Pimp a Butterfly with Kendrick Lamar. The Los Angeles musician caught up with GQ to talk about his role in the project and getting into hip-hop from elementary school and meeting Terrace Martin in college, where he then crossed paths with the likes of Battlecat and Snoop Dogg. Thanks to Terrace, Kamasi was able to bring string and horn arrangements to K. Dot’s project, which is currently up for 11 Grammy awards.
