Kanye West, Cam’ron collaborative album we never got story is explained, as the group readies Diplomatic Immunity 3 with The Heatmakerz. Before the Roc-a-Fella breakup, Kanye West was around The Diplomats more than most of the original Roc-a-Fella camp. From having producer credits on Come Home with Me, it got as far as to having him produce the first track on the group’s infamous Diplomatic Immunity album.
However, at the time, the Jay-Z and Dame Dash split was happening, as many people in the company were forced to go where they were told. While Kanye still had a working relationship with Cam’ron before the release of The College Dropout, the intense working environment with egos robbed fans of a collaborative effort. Yes, Killa and Kanye West were planning a joint-project, which was going to be entirely produced by Yeezy.
At the time, Rsonist and Thrilla were working with outside artists, and weren’t heavily featured on future Dipset projects after Juelz Santana’s debut album. Unfortunately, Cam’ron’s Purple Haze album, which was turned in summer 2003, was held by the labels until holiday 2004. Killa was essentially put on a gag order until summer 2005, when he aired out personal issues with Jiggaman.
That was the final nail that killed the possibility of Kanye producing content for The Diplomats at the time. When “Down & Out” released, with the music video in early 2005, the two were white hot with buzz. This was one of the biggest missed opportunities we’ve witnessed behind-the-scenes for fans of the genre. Let us know in the comments if you would’ve wanted a full album from Killa on production by Yeezy.
