Considering Kehlani is no longer on Twitter, we have to catch what she’s been up to on Instagram. She’s been performing in various cities lately and genuinely seems happy about life.
To kick off ILY Magazine, the Bay Area singer covers the debut online cover and opened up about love, among other things. She talked about her relationship with her mom has affected her at the ripe age of 20, how she knows she’s feeling those butterflies and what her definition of the L word has changed over the years as she’s matured as a person.
How has your definition of love changed?
It’s changed a lot actually. I used to think that love was giving up everything of yourself and giving it to the other person. Now, I’ve realized that love is when you have somebody that doesn’t make you give up half of yourself. They want you to be as much for you as you are for them. It’s not a selfish thing, where they want you to be all for them. I think the the most important thing that I’ve learned recently is that love involves you two, not just the other person.
Of course, she also touched on those rumors of her dating Kyrie Irving, who actually joined the conversation live from FaceTime. She says the two established a friendship and she feels comfortable being goofy and herself with him. Don’t be surprised to see her courtside at the playoffs come June when the Cleveland Cavaliers try to make a run in the Eastern Conference.
