Last night on the Arsenio Hall Show, Kendrick Lamar was one of the special guests along with his Black Hippy mate ScHoolboy Q to perform for the live audience. Before the two took stage, Kendrick sat down with Arsenio for one of his first late interviews in America.

Things opened up with speaking on the meaning process behind his debut opus last year “good kid, m.A.A.d city.” Ice Cube was a recent guest on the show, and cited Kendrick Lamar as the rapper who he’s listening to the most right now; which had Dot flattered at the comments from one of his role models.

Kendrick went on to touch on his “Control” verse, which was to challenge the hip-hop culture for the future, in comparison to living for the present. Check after the jump for more of the interview, which he speaks on seeing Dr. Dre and 2pac shooting visuals to “California Love” back in ’95, growing up in Compton, his birth name and more.
