Lil Nas X Sued for $25 Million Over Stealing Bobby Caldwell Song

Lil Nas X is being sued for $25 million over stealing a Bobby Caldwell song, TMZ reports.

The rapper and Sony are being sued by a company called The Music Force for jacking the Caldwell’s 1982 track “Carry On.” According to the lawsuit, X posted a track on YouTube, Spotify and SoundCloud that appropriated parts of “Carry On” without permission, and it had nearly four million YouTube views as of early July.

Music Force alleges X was “motivated by greed and malicious intent,” and are also suing Sony due to signing the rapper to a record deal without clearing the song. The company says that X destroyed the value of the original Caldwell song by jacking it.

For those who recognize the beat but haven’t heard it before, Madlib sampled it for MED’s “Can’t Hold On.”
