Lupe Fiasco Finally Gives an Acceptance Speech for His 2008 Grammy Win

Back in 2008, Lupe Fiasco won his first and only Grammy Award for Best Urban/Alternative Performance with the song “Daydreamin'” featuring Jill Scott. The track, of course, appeared on his debut album Food & Liquor.

Unfortunately, Lupe was sick with pneumonia and unable to make it to the big awards night. The Grammy was sent it to his lawyer, who had it in her garage this whole time. Lupe then asked his assistant in New York to pick up the award for him, but instead of getting it himself, he sent someone else to get it. This guy had the Grammy at his house for a while, so Lupe figured out a way to stop off in New York on his way from Connecticut to Cincinatti. Now, the prize is finally in his hands.

Lupe decided to tell this story at a show and followed it with his long-delayed acceptance speech and a performance of the song.
