In case you didn’t know, Mahershala Ali has a great taste in music. Hell, he even released an album of his own once (see: Curb Side Service).
For Black History Month, he decided to put together a playlist featuring some of his favorite songs, including music from Madlib, The Roots, D’Angelo, Marvin Gaye, J Dilla, Mos Def, Lauryn Hill, C.L. Smooth & Pete Rock, MC Lyte, Digable Planets, Erykah Badu, GZA, Gang Starr, Main Source, Common, JAY-Z and many others.
“One of the gifts in acting is that I’m required to embrace the lives of other men,” Mahershala Ali said. “It’s always a Black man challenging me to tell his story with empathy absent of judgment. These songs have inspired qualities in several characters during my exploration of the diverse and beautifully complex Black identity.”
