Marvin Gaye’s Family Speaks Out After “Blurred Lines” Verdict

Should Pharrell be nervous?

The verdict for the “Blurred Lines” lawsuit came in this week and sent shockwaves through the music community, because of the sheer amount both Robin Thicke and Pharrell were ordered to pay in damages, but also due to what precedent this would bring to songwriting.

Speaking for the first time to Entertainment Tonight after that shocking ruling, the Marvin Gaye family talked about what they felt the moment the verdict was read. They were also asked if they lost all respect for Thicke and Skateboard P, saying they haven’t but they don’t agree with them taking the essence of Marvin Gaye’s song and using it for their profit.

Interestingly enough, they all agree that Pharrell’s “Happy” also sounds like “Ain’t It Peculiar” but at this moment they will not pursue legal action. As much as they think the two songs match in vibe, they are living in the moment and they’re glad they won the first battle.

Do you think either of the two songs match Gaye’s classic catalog or is the family of the late singer reaching with these legal battles?
