Megan Thee Stallion Opens Up About Protecting Black Women After Tory Lanez Shooting

Much like we saw in her performance on Saturday Night Live a few weeks ago, Megan Thee Stallion is calling to “protect black women” in the wake of her shooting incident with Tory Lanez.

The Texas rapstress wrote a new op-ed in theNY Times speaking directly on this topic.

Hot Girl Meg opened up about being shot that night in the Hollywood Hills and how her initial silence made people think that the incident was warranted. She also spoke about how she anticipated backlash after her “protect black women” message on SNL, but called it “necessary trouble.”

“Despite this and despite the way so many have embraced messages about racial justice this year, Black women are still constantly disrespected and disregarded in so many areas of life.

I was recently the victim of an act of violence by a man. After a party, I was shot twice as I walked away from him. We were not in a relationship. Truthfully, I was shocked that I ended up in that place. After a lot of self-reflection on that incident, I’ve realized that violence against women is not always connected to being in a relationship. Instead, it happens because too many men treat all women as objects, which helps them to justify inflicting abuse against us when we choose to exercise our own free will.”

Meg also touched on choosing what she wears but the criticism she’s received is hurtful because she’s not doing it to appeal to women, but rather to have positive self image.
