Mick Jenkins Freestyles on Hot 97, Talks Neo Soul Influence and Mumble Rap

Mick Jenkins will release his debut studio album The Healing Component on September 23rd, following acclaimed projects like The Water[s] and Wave[s]. Today, he stopped by Hot 97 for an interview with Ebro, Laura Stylez and Peter Rosenberg. Mick talks about his parents’ influence of neo-soul like Sade, Jill Scott and D’Angelo, getting into hip-hop through Phonte, Talib Kweli, Kanye West and Common, his thoughts on “mumble rap” and much more, along with spitting a freestyle at the end.
