MTV, Spotify Form Music-Streaming Partnership

No more using Shazam to find out unknown songs on Catfish or Awkward?

One of our favorite music apps in recent years has been commercial streaming service, Spotify. Those of you who visit the site frequently, should know we use Spotify essentially for every playlist and tribute set in music features. In its short lifespan, the service has generated 40 million users and 10 million subscribers of its unlimited plan of $10 a month.

Boasting a 20 million-song catalog – MTV, BET and VH1’s parent company Viacom has now formed a partnership with Spotify founder Daniel Ek. Both sides plan to bring the music back to MTV through its reality show and TV series programing (see: picture above, you’re welcome) – as well as using the service across Viacom’s online sites for album streaming and new featured artist you tend to come across when watching the networks.

In previous years, viewers who weren’t using a DVR had to rely on Shazam for obtaining information on a new artist they never heard or unfamiliar single. Those days are obviously behind us now looking ahead to the future, with series and specials having dedicated playlists within Viacom-based Spotify channels to quickly add to your favorites.
