N.W.A. Charts On Billboard Hot 100 For First Time Ever

Although the collective of Dr. Dre, Ice Cube, Eazy E, MC Ren and DJ Yella have reached legendary status as N.W.A., even at the height of their success, they never cracked the Billboard charts with a single. Now, 27 years after they burst into the scene with reality raps and controversy over their lyrics, the group has a certified hit in the Top 40.

Thanks to their new biopic in theaters, their 1988 single “Straight Outta Compton” has managed to sneak into the charts for the first time ever, at No. 38. Not only that, but the album Straight Outta Compton managed to be the fourth highest selling album of the week, only trailing Dre’s new opus Compton. If you check iTunes, Eazy’s “Boyz-n-the-Hood,” and Cube’s “No Vaseline” are also on Top 100 charts, seeing a spike in streams and digital sales.

Talk about reaching heights they’ve never reached before. It seems like the Straight Outta Compton film has propelled the group into uncharted waters and given them new life. The popularity just keeps growing and it’s good to see the kids up on game.
