It’s a great day for Hip Hop because as the seventh ever rapper to be inducted to the Rock Hall of Fame, The Notorious B.I.G. received that prestigious honor today. The late Brooklyn spitter rounded out a 2020 class that also included the likes of Whitney Houston, The Doobie Brothers, Nine Inch Nails, Depeche Mode and T.Rex.
The ceremony for the awards will take place in Cleveland on May 2 and will be airing on HBO.
In rare fashion, Biggie was nominated in his first year of eligibility (that means 25 years after an artist’s first commercial release), which doesn’t happen often. As the seventh rapper inducted, he joined Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five, Run-DMC, the Beastie Boys, Public Enemy, N.W.A, and Tupac Shakur as others who are in the Rock Hall.
Of the other acts nominated which did not receive an induction this year included Soundgarden, Dave Matthews Band, Rufus with Chaka Khan, Judas Priest and more.
Bump some B.I.G. today and pour one out for Big Poppa.
