Pac was looking out for the NY OGs
This week, Scorpio of the Furious Five opened up about 2pac wanting to look out for past NYC rap legends that were shunned at during the late 90s. At the time, none of them could even get radio play, which is something Pac felt wasn’t right for them laying down the foundation for the culture of hip-hop.
Contrary to the belief, both Pac and Suge Knight were adamant on making sure the forefathers of hip-hop were still presented in the right light and knew they had the power to make things happen. Scorpio confirmed that Pac helped Melle Mel get a $300K record deal before he died and wanted zero money.
At the time, 2pac and Suge were already working with Eric B, Run-DMC, Big Daddy Kane, Kool G-Rap and other legends at Death Row East. This gets overlooked for west coast guys like that wanted to preserve classic hip-hop from the city of NY. Take a look at Scorpio explaining the situation below.
