Ab-Soul Do What Thou Wilt
Released: December 9th, 2016
Must Listen: “D.R.U.G.S.

Ab-Soul had been sitting on the TDE bench for quite some time before we finally got a proper release of his album Do What Thou Wilt. He came off the bench and dropped 60 with this album no problems. In 16 songs Soul spits some of the hardest bars of the year, as well as his entire career. We don’t know why Top Dawg kept this under wraps for so long, but we’re glad he let it fly.

Over the span of 16 songs Soulo speaks on conspiracy theories, the bible, and shows an unexpected interest in women throughout the album. There are more than a few songs dedicated towards the other sex on DWTW and they are the center of more than a few theories of his on the album.

For the most part he keeps the same array of TDE producers here such as Sounwave, Tae Beast, Willie Hutch and a few others, but he also brings a few fresh faces such as Wondagurl and A$AP P on the Boards to help too. The whole album is dark and gloomy, so if you’re looking for anything upbeat you won’t find it on DWTW. It sounds like Ab-Soul is in one mood the entire album, and it works for him here.

The standout tracks are “D.R.U.G.S.,” Wifey Vs. WiFi,” and “The Law,” which features Mac Miller and Rapsody. We can’t wait to see what TDE has in store for us next year, coming off the heels of this project.
