Sampha Process
Released: February 2nd, 2017
Essential Listening: Reverse Faults

The world has been waiting on a full Sampha album since his beautiful EP Dual Ep from years and years ago. He kept himself busy doing features from everyone to Drake all the way to Solange. Simply said, anything Sampha has touched recently turned into gold. Process was no different.

The first singles “Timmy’s Prayer” and “Blood On Me” found Sampha playing with an upbeat sound, but not straying to far away from what makes him him. His heavy accent while he sings is his strong suit, and he made sure that wasn’t diluted over the beats he chose for Process. He’s been through a lot in life, and most likely that’s what took so long for the debut album.

Some of the songs are reflections of Sampha’s problems such as the super personal “No One Knows Me” (Like the Piano), which is about the death of his mother. He shot a beautiful video along with it, and it captures him at his most vulnerable as it’s just him and the piano. Other standouts include “Reverse Faults,” which features Sampha coming in on a beautiful beat drop, and “Incomplete Kisses” which is a simple display of how beautiful his voice is. We don’t know when we’ll get another Sampha album, but Process should hold us over for a while.
