Matt Martains The Drum Chord Theory
Released: January 27th, 2017
Essential Listening: Where Are Yo Friends?
Little is know about Matt Martains, except that he’s a member of the group The Internet. The Internet all announced last year that they would be working on a few solo projects before the next Internet album came, and the announcement of Matt Martains debut album was true to that statement. Soon after, Syd announced that she would be following up after him, and she drops Friday.
Matt Martains is clearly a big deal within The Internet’s sound. After listening to his album The Drum Chord Theory you can tell that he’s all about sounds, and instruments, and being creative. There are a lot of unorthodox instruments and sounds on his album, and that’s apart of what makes it so good. He also has decent vocals to back that, and if you’re looking to vibe, this is the perfect stuff to listen to. A lot of songs have hidden songs in them as well, and you wouldn’t be able to tell that just from looking at the tracklist.
A early favorite is easily “Where Are Yo Friends?” which features some knocks at the door, some bells and other crazy things to put together a great track. Early on, Matt lets us know he’s not one to shy away from experimenting on a song. All of the features on the album are courtesy of The Internet except Kari Faux, who lends a great verse on “Alotta Women,” which is an ode to women rolling weed. And if “Dent Jusay” is any indication of what maybe coming on Syd’s solo effort we’re in for a treat come Friday. Until then, we’re gonna post up and listen to her counterparts great first album.
