When Big Punisher was on his Papichulo shit for the chickas in magazine spreads, Fat Joe da Gangsta was entering the rap game straight from Trinity Avenue to deliver one of our favorite albums in the early 90s. Launching his record label Terror Squad over 20 years ago, Fat Joe came to “Represent” on his debut album highlighted by the video above.
For “Flow Joe”, he was the first Puerto Rican to cross over into the mainstream, while dropping some of that hardcore in the process. In our eyes Joey Crack has always been one of more underrated emcees of all time, but his raps (and album structures) sadly get overshadowed by his female-oriented singles with your favorite R&B singers.
We felt we had to pay homage the original Diggin’ in the Crates Crew member today, which he doesn’t get more recognition for his contributions to the game.
One time for da Gangsta.
