Remember when Mobb Deep liked each other? It really feels like ages; but last night while watching Tony Montana for the billionth time (with our minds on another planet), we remembered the “Scarface” theme song was sampled from the Infamous duo which we felt it would be necessary to spread light to this gem.
In this day in age, it’s rare to still have rap Icons in their 30s, after generating timeless music during the 90’s; but the Queensbridge boys were some of the youngest cats in the game to influence almost every emcee that’s graced a booth proceeding them. From their 1999 album, “Murda Muzik”, Hype Williams took the visuals to a private island with the most exotic women around to enjoy some warm weather.
It’s unfortunate that none of the acts like each other in the present day, due to overly aggressive competition; but that’s just the spirit of this hip-hop thing. Maybe the two legends should take a note out of the book from the newer cats coming up like TDE, A$AP Mob and Taylor Gang uniting (at their own will) once more the streets.
