Today marks the 40th birthday for Queensbridge legend, Nasir bin Olu Dara Jones. One of our favorite albums from Nasty Nas is Illmatic. In comparison to his original Scarface-themed visuals that showcased Nas living playboy lifestyle and few scenes around Queens, the remix took us on trip to the real 41st side.
Although the Q-Tip remix didn’t leave the impact on the game like the original version; we always preferred this track in our rotations having the more grittier feel, with the streets cats out for the dead presidents. While being under heavy surveillance from the three letter boys, we’re shown the consequences of a reckless life.

Nearly 20 years later after his debut, Nas is still delivering gems, most recently seen last year with his 10th studio album “Life is Good.” It’s a must to pay homage to Nas on his 40th, being one of the socially conscious brothers we grew up idolizing.
