Isaiah Rashad The Sun’s Tirade
Released: September 1st, 2016
Must Listen: “Tity and Dolla” (feat. Hugh Augustine & Jay Rock)
It’s been light years since we’d heard from TDE’s Isaiah Rashad, but when he delivered The Sun’s Tirade: he delivered.
The campaign for the album started off with the track “Free Lunch” and from there Isaiah Rashad let us know why he had been so absent from the music scene. After his first tour with label mate Schoolboy Q, he struggled with substance abuse stemming from lack of supervision and from there, he revealed he almost was dropped from TDE multiple times. Good thing that didn’t happen, because we wouldn’t have received this wonderful album of his.
The Sun’s Tirade is Isaiah Rashad finding his voice and then some. He tries a variety of different things on the album, and all of them work. He uses a few different effects with his voice on songs like “Bday” and almost sings on songs like “Silkk Da Shocka.” He doesn’t forget about rapping though, and goes all the way off on “Park,” “Tity and Dolla” and a few others. His precision on the album is unmatched and it’s obvious. “Free Lunch” displays that precision easily with his flow being perfect, as he grooves through a beautiful Cam O’bi beat talking about his child hood and things he used to remember as a child. It’s obvious that he will only get better from here, but for now lets just enjoy The Sun’s Tirade and be happy he’s well and okay.
