The last track from Pusha T‘s Darkest Before Dawn album was deep but it may have gone over some people’s heads. Luckily, GENIUS sat down with Pyrex P to talk about some of the lyrics on the song and explain his thought process behind them.
In the first part of the video, King Push speaks on police brutality, condemning it, while still saying that he supports police officers. He says it’s not all cops, but the ones who use excessive force are wrong for doing it and questions the system with the lyric “cellphones ain’t enough proof.” He also breaks down his Talib Kweli/Don Lemon reference and why it touched him.
He ends the conversation with some knowledge that many people may not know about the Statue of Liberty, which originally got sent back because it was modeled after an African tribal queen. He learned that little nugget of history through one of his friends.
