Real story Universal released Kanye West DONDA album Sunday is examined, following him calling out the major label on Sunday. With Kanye’s album hitting streaming services yesterday, he wasn’t in a celebrating mood. While the project is set to debut no. 1 on charts next weekend, Yeezy publicly put Universal Records on blast for the release of DONDA without his consent.
He said in a post, “Universal put my album out without my approval, and they blocked Jail 2 from being on the album.” While we’ve explained the Jail 2 situation with Jay-Z, he doesn’t understand the move from the label. For an entire month, we’ve been seeing Kanye promote the album and severely watch people lose interest from it.
In our opinion, Yeezy should’ve released it the first weekend of the initial event in Atlanta; when he had the biggest buzz in music this year. While things have cooled off, we’ve heard that the Big Homie wasn’t too fond of it being delayed (went out of his way to record a rare verse), noticing some steam had been lost.
Now, as far as Universal, why the fuck would they want two of their biggest artists releasing on the same week? With Drake set to outsell everything this year (unless Kenny drops), we’re sure they would want to maximize the week of Yeezy and his DONDA album.
Along with that, why would they want anything effecting sales for Drake? They have a chance to get two projects multi-platinum within a month, as well as planning worldwide tours for both. It would be amazing for the fans to see both releases; but that would hinder one project from getting listeners and it wouldn’t be anybody from OVO.
To this day, Drake still holds the Spotify record for the most listened to new album release in a 24-hour timespan, with Scorpion having 132.4 million streams. So, with Kanye eating this week, Drake is expecting to shut down everything next weekend with Certified Lover Boy arrives.
