The Red Light Special podcast with Rob Markman and Kris Coral is back with episode two and although they don’t have a debate this week about the battle of classic R&B groups, they did have special guest Rico Love to talk game with them.
Rico talked about how he got his start in music with Usher and how “Throwback” from Confessions was the first song he ever wrote and explained how that album changed his life. He also went on a semi-rant about the state of music today and how labels force artists to do what’s hot at the moment rather than let them speak from the heart and do music they like. He said that kids are growing up with music that has no meaning because artists aren’t showing the pain that they go through in their art.
The three also talked about what it was like to craft Turn The Lights On and how personal some of those songs on the album are to Rico, and why he chose to take that route for his debut.
