JAY Z has to put music focus to one international lady

Since first signing to JAY Z and Roc Nation in 2008 at the age of 18, Rita Ora’s maintained unusual star power, to have released only one album – nearly four year ago. The UK singer-model and actor is now filing lawsuit against Mr. Shawn Carter’s music label, citing she’s allegedly being held back by the company for not releasing her music, that’s been sitting in vaults for sometime.

In the lawsuit, she’s testing California’s seven-year rule on personal service contracts, and is complaining Roc Nation has violated the state’s law, to seek independence – immediately.

Olivia Newton-John was one of the of the first artist to use the seven year rule, following a case against MCA Records for holding unreleased albums. Luckily, she was victorious in the suit and had evidence to prove she fulfilled a commitment to the label, in part of their deal – breaking the cycle of old Hollywood. Rita has now blamed JAY’s interest in TIDAL and his sports agency as the reason why he hasn’t been focused on pushing her career in recent years.

After Roc Nation switched its distribution from Sony Music to Universal Music in 2013, Ora was not included in the deal and has been hindered by her original team all leaving the company.

The complaint states, “Between Sony’s limited economic return from its orphaned relationship with Roc Nation and Sony’s indirect relationship with Rita, Rita is caught in a political quagmire of dysfunction.” Her original deal, gave Roc Nation the option to permit up to five albums through her limitations, but Ora’s now gone public to make the bold move to furthering her career.

Roc Nation representatives are yet to comment on this new lawsuit, but we’ll keep you up to date if any major news surfaces from either the camps of Rita Ora and now her former employer, JAY Z.
