Sarah King’s Illustrated New York Hip-Hop Map

New York Magazine put together a very extensive look at New York Pop Music through the decades for their new issue and it was very interesting to read about what certain figures thought of certain artists. For example, NY Mag asked Spike Lee what he thought of Public Enemy, Roberta Flack told an interesting story about John Lennon and Rick Rubin spoke on how “99 Problems” came about.

In the same print issue of the magazine, Sarah King crafted a map of New York Hip-Hop, stemming everywhere from where Run DMC is from to The Notorious B.I.G.’s old neighborhood in Brooklyn. The Hot 97 studios, Queensbridge housing projects and the birthplace of the Wu-Tang Clan all make cameos on the map as well.
