Congrats Q!
Two years removed from the release of his Oxymoron effort, Los Angeles rapper ScHoolboy Q returned retuned a few days ago with fourth studio Blank Face LP. The project, which generated buzz through the Kanye West-assisted single “THat Part,” debuted at no. 2 on Billboard, with 74,000 units (of which 52,000 were physical album sales).
Unfortunately, for him, Drake’s VIEWS project returned to reclaim its throne as the highest selling project released this year – with 1.34 million copies sold. The Blank Face LP was down from Q’s Oxymoron effort in 2014, which debuted at no. 1 with 139,000 copies sold.
He now becomes the first artist to debut at no. 2 behind VIEWS, with the likes of Nick Jonas, Ariana Grande, Red Hot Chili Peppers and Dierks Bentley were also blocked the peaking at no. 1.
Nonetheless, this is still a major accomplishment for the Top Dawg Entertainment umbrella this summer, as the label gears up for more releases before 2017.
