We’re not even sure how many names Sean Combs has had in his career, but it’s more than a handful. Puff Daddy, P Diddy, Diddy, and now Love.
In his new cover story with Vanity Fair, he welcomes the Love era.
He said a lot in the interview with the magazine, but one of the standout quotes has him talking about starting an all-R&B record label:
“I’m coming back to music, you know? [An] all R&B label, because I feel like R&B was abandoned and it’s a part of our African American culture. I’m not signing any artists. Because if you know better, you do better. I’m doing 50–50 partnerships with pure transparency. That’s the thing.” Combs says his intent is to “own the genre” of R&B. “We don’t own hip-hop right now. We have a chance to—and I’m going to make sure that—we own R&B.”
Considering we’re big R&B heads on this side, we’re excited to see what Diddy cooks up.
Elsewhere in the interview, he also talks about (or doesn’t) about Jennifer Lopez, why this new chapter in his life is so noteworthy, his new sense of purpose and more. Read the entire cover story with LOVE HERE.
His upcoming album Off the Grid drops on September 24.
