We’ve been waiting for Snoop Dogg to get back to the G-Funk ways we enjoyed back when we first started listening to him for mad long. We’ve seen glimpses of it since his departure from Death Row, but Snoop has adopted so many different styles, they get lost in the mix. You’re talking about a Calvin Broadus that evolved into a Reggae artist, went to No Limit Records and had great success with The Neptunes.
He tried to bring it back to the essence with DaM FunK on that 7 Days Of Funk album, but there was still something missing. Maybe it was Dr. Dre’s production. Maybe sampling funk records is played in 2014. Maybe youngsters don’t appreciate George Clinton and Bootsy Collins like we did growing up.
Either way, it sounds like Madlib brought it out of him. Word to “Cadillacs.”
