take it back to the classics
If you know anything about us here at OS, it’s that we’ve been on the Spotify wagon for mad long. We don’t understand how people can still hate the streaming service when it’s so convenient. We still remember the days when all we received was hate for using it. Now they have 20 million subscribers and over 60 million active users, so there’s absolutely no denying the platform. If you’re not on it at this point, you’re a stubborn dinosaur.
Just recently, the company announced a new feature called Taste Rewind, which lets you discover old music. Whether you wanted to take it back to the 1960’s, ’70s, ’80s, ’90s or even as “far back” as the 2000’s, you could do it through the new option.
Basically, when you go into the webpage and sign in with your credentials, Spotify will pull from your playlists and played artists, to gather some information and compile it to your tastes.
When we first launched the application, it had us pick three artists that popped up at random. There weren’t vary many options but we managed to choose Rage Against The Machine, Alice In Chains, Mtume. After hitting the Rewind button, it automatically made playlists that we could choose to save and “discover” music from. The second attempt, we picked Soundgarden, Radiohead and Audioslave, then cooked up something from the ’80s.
The playlists save to your account so you can immediately go and listen to and maybe find something from whatever era you’re not well versed on. We have yet to try inputting rap artists with our picks, but it’s worth a shot. It seems a little glitchy right now (there should be options for more artists, not just a random 10), but we’re sure as Spotify fine tunes things, it’ll get much easier to use.
We’re not absolutely co-signing it right now, but it’s definitely a good alternative to have besides the sea of playlists they already have on deck through Browse.
