Prior to sitting down with the OnSMASH team one weekend earlier this year, Bobby Shmurda and his GS9 click were only known through the streets of Brooklyn. Some of us here have been advocates of aggressive and authentic sounds in the mainstream and didn’t expect to see an artist directly from the streets generate the buzz like the Shmurda family did over the last 6 months. One Jahlil Beats record originally from a Lloyd Banks mixtape and a Shmurda Dance led to the resurgence of the “gangster rapper” in the main stream.
Coincidentally, Sha Money XL who currently manages Bobby, had this exact success with 50 Cent and G-Unit during the early 2000s. Although GS9 are in the initial stages of their careers, there’s always time improve their craft for more “Hot Nigga” records for the masses, like with saw in the past with their 718 neighbors in the Q-Borough.
