Legend
Up until midway through the year, all I kept seeing on Twitter and social media is how 2015 was a great year for albums. I didn’t want to believe it. Maybe because I was spending less time sitting there listening to music and too caught up watching TV shows. But one thing I couldn’t deny is the amount of music that was out. It was so much that there wasn’t enough time in the day to get through it all, even if I wasn’t preoccupied watching Mr. Robot or Game of Thrones.
Then I started thinking about it towards the end of summer and I started warming up to the idea that maybe it was a good year for music.
There were albums that I listened to a lot. At the gym, in the car. At the crib. Then there were albums that I didn’t listen to in full on the whole, but certain records off there got MASSIVE burn. I would just add them to a playlist and bump the fuck out of them.
When it was time to finally pick my favorites, I had to go with what I played in whole the most. I can’t say I listened to all rap all the time, which is why you’ll probably catch some sleepers in there. Shit nobody really talked about or hyped on Twitter. Plus, I was never one to follow your typical year-end lists and be politically correct about shit (sorry Drake & Future and The Weeknd).
Hate it or love it, here is what I played the most throughout this year.
That Tuxedo record was too funky. Jay Rock didn’t get the respect he got for that great album. Leon Bridges might possibly have the most soulful album of the year. The Arcs are probably the best alternative band that you never heard of. The only omission I was tore about leaving out is 2 Chainz Trapavelli Tre, which is practically an album because it has all original songs, but he dropped for free as a mixtape. To me, it’s an album, but since we’re being technical, it was left off.
