If you watched Hot 97’s Summer Jam XX live stream yesterday, you’re probably aware that quite a bit of shit went down. There were some really great performances by the game’s biggest stars (see: Chris Brown, Miguel, 2 Chainz, Nicki Minaj, J. Cole and many more) but one of the most special moments of the evening was when Wu-Tang clan reunited on-stage. That and TDE shutting down Metlife Stadium.
What would SJ be without controversy, though? There were rumors swirling all week that some big surprises would be involved in this years festivities and the internet started buzzing when reports that Hov & Beyonce were in the building. Jay was supposed to be joining Kendrick Lamar on stage for the “Bitch Don’t Kill My Vibe (Remix).” For some reason it didn’t go down, but Kendrick still had one of the best sets of the night, rocking out with no back vocals (which unfortunately was a rare occurrence last night).
The most talked about moment of the evening though happened when Kendrick was leaving the stage and the lights went down. A DJ cued up a song and a New York rapper started performing. That New York rapper ladies and gentlemen, was none other than Papoose. In a move that shocked and confused all viewers and the entire audience, Pap rocked through a whole song and almost fail whaled Twitter (he trended) all by his appearance on stage. I’m not sure anyone still knows what happened, because Hot 97 is denying that they knew about Pap coming out and said that it was Kendrick’s idea.
Whatever happened, it will forever be remembered as the night where Papoose closed Summer Jam after the Wu-Tang Clan. The real Nacirema Dream.
