SZA kicked off the campaign for her new album CTRL earlier this month with the release of the first single “Drew Barrymore” and a performance on Jimmy Kimmel Live. Now, in a brand new interview with Billboard, she’s revealed that the album will be released on February 3rd (that’s next week!).
In that same piece, SZA talks about spending time with Rick Rubin. “I had this mentality that ‘more is more’ — more reverb, more background [vocals],” she says. “I played him a bunch of songs, and he would tell me, ‘The more you take away from any piece, the more room you create for everything else to be beautiful and grow.’ I never felt that before, the editing urge. Once you strip everything down, you’re forced to say something.”
