Taylor Bennett is back with a soulful new track called “Be Yourself.” On it, he talks about his youth, challenges on the south side of Chicago and not fitting in across a single three-minute verse. Bianca Shaw then comes in with vocals at the end.
“To be black in America, to come from a background where typical masculinity comes first at all costs and being the first to disrupt the norm, is so scary,” Taylor told TIME. “You know, it’s very, very, very hard to be yourself — but even more difficult to be yourself and still be the most powerful person or version of yourself in a room.”
“Be Yourself” is produced by Stix and taken from his upcoming EP.
