The Industry To Change Release Dates From Tuesday to Friday

More changes as a result to digital releases

As another way to combat piracy, the record industry (represented by the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry) will be changing what people know as Tuesday release dates to Friday, to match global release days. But not everyone is for the move.

IFPI head Frances Moore revealed the reasoning behind the move:

“Music fans live in the digital world of today. Their love for new music doesn’t recognise national borders. They want music when it’s available on the internet — not when it’s ready to be released in their country. An aligned global release day puts an end to the frustration of not being able to access releases in their country when the music is available in another country.”

Some people argued that Friday would not really increase sales if released on that day, while others say that this move would only benefit the mainstream and not indie or niche markets.

Does it make a difference to you what day albums are released?
