Cause I’m A Rider, I’m A Soul Survivor!

It’s about to be Young Jeezy week around the rap world, because not only did he release his new single “God,” but he announced a new album to drop this November. To coincide with the release of some new music, Complex has released a new magnum opus episode about the making of one of Jeezy’s biggest singles, “Soul Survivor.”

During the short documentary, they talked to Shawty Redd about how they plotted the come up from Atlanta, what it took to get his music to the hands of DJ Drama and what he was trying to do at the start of his rap run. Jeezy confesses he didn’t even know what mixtapes were, but by the time Trap or Die came out, he was a certified street star.

Def Jam’s Shawn Pecas and director Benny Boom also spoke on how things panned out on the Def Jam records side, how they stretegically put out the record and how JAY Z ended up coming out to the video set for the single to show love. That’s when Jeezy was solidified in the mainstream.
