Coming Straight From The Underground
If you watched the hit movie Straight Outta Compton, you saw the story of N.W.A., as well as their rise and fall. Even though they touched on the culture surrounding Compton between cops and gangbangers at the time they came up, Noisey has put together a short documentary about the song “Fuck The Police.” They talked to Ice Cube, DJ Yella, some bangers from the era and even cops that worked in the police department at the time.
In the video, they all talk about how the song put Compton on the map because N.W.A. were talking about shit that was actually going on in the neighborhood. The cops said they weren’t too bothered by it, it was more the other police that were removed from the city that were scared.
They admit that at that time, there was definitely a strong presence against gangs, but it was the city’s answer to fighting the violence going on in the streets.
Check out the video and learn about the CPT in the 80s above.
